Florence Update

1 Oct 2018 by CJ Guarino

Hurricane Florence has struck the coast of North and South Carolina causing major flooding in coastal areas. CCU Hockey’s season opener vs. The University of North Carolina Wilmington has been postponed until further notice. CCU’s away games against The University of South Carolina and the University of North Carolina Charlotte have been cancelled as well. Although Hurricane Florence highly impacted areas around campus and CCU’s rink, both managed to make it out of the storm with little damage. “You know we go to a school where hurricanes are likely to happen, this was just a bad one you know. We’re fortunate our campus and rink are still in good shape. It was just a little set back, but now its back to work” says CCU Defenseman Alex Gierej. The Wilmington Ice House is now operating normally and Coastal’s campus will reopen on Friday, September 28th. CCU Hockey is expected to return to the ice on Wednesday in preparation for their home opener next week. The squad will open the gates at home vs. Liberty University on October 5th at 10 P.M. and October 6th at 4:30 P.M. Admission to the game is free for students or tune in to ccuhockey.wixsite.com/ccuhockey to watch the live broadcast.
